A REFLECTION ON CONNECTEDNESS

Because Nix looks a lot like David, and David looks like his dad, I saw that connection a while back.
This morning, I was showing Nix photos of himself, then suddenly, I saw my dad flash through in our son! It was new revelation for me, as everyone says Nix looks like David. And I have seen myself in Nix in many ways, too… but my dad?
Never.

It got me thinking…

What could have possibly connected Rev. Dr. Song (Late), who was born in Korea but later moved to the USA and Major Samson Eneche (Retired) who lives in Nigeria?
These two men are worlds apart in every sense of the word:

Race.
Career.
Culture.
Hobbies.
Language.
Worldview.
Spirituality.
Personality.

Although they have never met, their kids met and married in South Africa – and these two got “connected” in an uncanny way.

It may not have been something they ever envisioned or pursued. It happened to them. As a result,
the combination of their DNA is reflected beautifully in a grand child that they both share, though both have never met and both haven’t even met the grandson either.

They have become “Generationally Connected” but still “Geographically Separated.”

We may have had the illusion in the past that we are separate and can exist without the other, we no longer have that option as our world becomes increasingly interconnected.

The simple, yet complicated truth is that we are ONE as humanity. The human DNA is one long strand, distributed in little pieces across cultures, tribes and nations.

The reason why we can detect patterns and notice coincidences is because in the core of us, we subconsciously know that we are connected to all things.

This picture of my dad was when he was very sick in 2007, we thought we would loose him then. Today, He enjoys every photo of mixed Nix that he receives. He cannot wait to meet him.

My father-in law also loved receiving the photos of Nix. Sadly, he passed away this year, before he met his grandchild, Nix.

We know that from an eternal point of view, we are one man – Adam. But why is there tension, prejudice, pain and discrimination as a result of our diversity?

Why do we feel distant from others?

Why do we fear our differences?

There is only one way to overcome this kind of distance…

It’s in choosing “Love.”

Not the fuzzy concept of Love, but one that places us in the Crucible.

“A crucible is a container that can withstand very high temperatures and is used for metal, glass, and pigment production as well as a number of modern laboratory processes.”

Only the Crucible of Love can change us and crack us open.

God is LOVE and HIS LOVE is what heals and unites, no other way.

God is in the process of “reconciling all things to Himself,” and there is enough room for our differences in Him.
When we connect in Love, it will not be “my way” or “your way,” it will be something entirely new and beautiful, like our son.

The opposite of Love is not Hate, it is Fear. Hate is a manifestation of Fear.

Love is the short but not easy answer to the “Fear of the Other.”

Love can break barriers.
Love can close the gap.
Love can create the unimaginable NEW THING in our world.

Here’s the thing…we either choose to consciously UNITE or our worlds will COLLIDE – eventually.
Collision can be destructive, but Unity is synergistic and dignifying.

Let us raise the next generation to love and celebrate diversity, and we will be helping to heal the world, one family at a time. One kid at a time.

Are you desperate for a NEW WAY forward for our world?
